![]() ![]() Cities is one of the most convenient games I've ever played for mods, and I think we're all a little spoilt with our modding community. I love this game but it's actually unplayable right now, and given how unstable mods and assets are in new expansions, I very much doubt I'll be investing more money in the game until we get some solutions for these issues.ĭon't get me wrong, I'm not moaning. I'll spend hours unsubscribing and working through assets individually to figure out the culprit but I've never managed to find exactly which ones cause it. Like you, a game is working fine for several days - I haven't added any new assets or mods, then all of a sudden, I get this problem with absolutely no indication of what's going wrong. I have this problem, and I have far few assets and mods than you (I try to limit myself to 450-500 individual assets, and I have around 50 mods). I'll post later if these suggestions have worked. Also, most assets are, in fact, props, used in who knows how many buildings around the workshop. However, I will take your advice and remove the assets I use the least. Again, this is something that could be made clearer, I believe. I might have too many assets, yes, but how many is too many? How do I know that? Why were they not too many one day earlier, when their number was exactly the same? I never found a single answer in any forum that could hint at one objective method of knowing when I'm using too many assets. Probably the most useful mod of all, alongside Loading Screen Mod. I have been using the Don't Crash mod for some time and it has been a real lifesaver. It says "NetLaneProps must be instantiated using the ScriptableObject.CreateInstance method instead of new NetLaneProps." with no mention of a mod name. The third message does not give a hint as to which mod it is referring to. I don't know if these messages have been generated before, but I'll keep an eye open now. They are Ploppable RICO and Network Extensions Project. I have checked my log and could identify two mods to which you were referring. So, if anyone, game dev or not, has any idea of what might be causing my woes this time, here go the log and the DX output.Īs always, thanks in advance, and I keep awaiting the day when CO will finally find a way to make the game easier to mod. Or buying anything from CO, for that matter. The output log is profoundly cryptic, spewing forth line after line of error messages and rarely telling what causes the error - and if it weren't for some good souls that provide scarce and much-needed advice in forums, many of us, including myself, would no longer be playing Cities: Skylines. But for a product marketed as mod-friendly, it doesn't do much to help the user (read: buyer) at least identify the mod/asset that is causing trouble. I have spent almost as many hours hunting for issues in Cities: skylines as I have playing the game itself. I never had a game that gave me so much trouble in my life (and I've been a gamer longer than most people I know - I might even be getting too old to be a gamer! - just kidding). For some reason, the game is able to generate an output log specifying the error(s) that caused it to malfunction, but it can't tell the name of the file that caused the error, simply providing the supremely useless information. The information in these lines tells me (again, I think) that an error occurs when the games checks for milestones, but I can't decipher much else. The one hint (I think) is the portion in the output.log where it says: "Simulation error: Object reference not set to an instance of an object" and then it provides a few lines of details that, quite frankly, could be a bit more detailed. Everything worked fine one day (30/Oct) and the next (31/Oct) it didn't. ![]() The error started for no apparent reason. I have made many attempts to unsubscribe to various mods and/or assets, with no changes. I doesn't happen when I run the game without mods or assets (using the launch options), but that didn't help me identify the problem because, well, the error message speaks nothing of the error itself. It occurs with old saves or with new games. It happens every few seconds, rendering the game unplayable. Object reference not set to an instance of an object A few days ago the game started to come up with this error while ingame: ![]()
